Memories and process vs. progress.
Usually, we make things out of passion. When drawing, you usually start practicing by drawing the things that you like the most, TV series, singers, actors, favorite animals, whatever, until you feel comfortable doing some of those aspects and can move to the next challenge. And that’s a beautiful way to start and grow in your craft.
When I look at this artwork from 4 years ago, I cannot shake off the nostalgic feeling, I was enjoying watching those anime so much, playing those games, or just watching at fan art of it, and I wanted to draw and draw, and keep practicing by drawing them over and over again. I was so proud of those little details in the background, their expressions, and the colors. Watching it from where I am now, I now there are many “flaws” in it, but I still love this artwork a lot. After all, making it made me get to were I am today!.
One thing that you learn after quite some time and when working as an artist is that sometimes you have to draw things that you don’t necessarily like, or is not something you LOVE at least, and you have to learn how to work and how “love” the process beyond the subject itself.
I was very attached to this characters back then, they were like a “save space” for me, but after some time I also learned that they were MY passion, not the passion of most of my followers, and I had to let them go (at least as the main part of my content).
In the end, you understand that you can keep doing what you love for YOU, for your own pleasure, but as a job, you have to look beyond that and learn how to approach things, how to love things, even if they’re not your passion.
Above all, you learn that the beauty of this craft, is not that much about the end result… but about the process of it.
